The Electrical Components sector has great potential for manufacturing and exporting of quality products since the companies involved hold international certifications. These companies employed more than 10 thousand people in 2015. In the same year, the sector generated 765.6 million dollars in exports. Such exports were sent to more than 15 destinations, most notably: United States, Democratic Republic of China, Canada, Puerto Rico and Germany.
Dominican Republic is one of the largest centers of free zones in the Caribbean; these play a substantial role in the export sector of the national economy.
Free zones are the main source of employment and exports in one of the largest and diverse and solid economies of the Central American and Caribbean sub region. Nevertheless, what is really impressive has been the change that this sector of the economy has had in recent years with the development of technology companies; especially those that are producing parts and electrical products recognized for their quality that make up for most of the demands of the US market.
